Over the last few months teams of joiners, plumbers, decorators, gas fitters and electricians from the housing group’s propertysolutions service have been transforming 78 houses and flats on the estate. The improvements have included fitting new kitchens and bathrooms and rewiring work. Some homes have also been fitted with new central heating.
The scheme is being coordinated by Incommunities’ Development and Regeneration service.
The improvements have included homes at Bank View, Bank View House, Central Avenue, Denby Drive, Denby House, Enfield Road and Valley View.
The tenants have been closely consulted on the modernisation work and been given a choice of fittings, flooring and colour schemes.
Nora and John Halpin of Denby Drive are delighted with the transformation of their home. They said: “Our new kitchen and bathroom has made a real difference to our home. Having workmen in was a bit of an upheaval but they have done a great job. The customer liaison officer from Incommunities (Jackie Sheard from propertysolutions) was a big help keeping us fully informed on the work to our home.”
Pauline Dunne, whose home was also improved, said: “The workmen were so considerate and helpful. It’s thanks to them I now have a lovely new-look home.
“They are working extremely hard to improve the estate for everyone.”
Ken Nicholson, Director of Incommunities – development & regeneration said: “These improvements are part of our multi million pound modernisation programme to bring more and more of our tenants’ homes up to the Bradford Standard, which is a level in excess of the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.
“Over the last five years Incommunities has invested over £40 million in improving homes in the Shipley area for the benefit of our tenants.”
Delroy Beverley, Director of Incommunities - propertysolutions said: “Our on-site team have been working closely with tenants to make sure these phase one improvements go as smoothly as possible. More than two-thirds of the 78 homes have been completed with just a handful more to complete.
“We have achieved a satisfaction rating of over 93% from customers in feedback to date and we will continue to work with them to ensure we meet their needs and maintain the highest customer standards.”
In July, work is due to start on the second stage of home improvements on the estate covering the remaining 119 homes.
