First affordable homes completed at Ravenscliffe

13 May 2010

Sixteen new homes for rent have been completed for the district’s biggest social landlord as part of a multi million pound housing scheme at Ravenscliffe in Bradford.

A joint development between Incommunities and leading social housing and regeneration specialist, Keepmoat Homes, will see 80 family-sized homes built by March 2011.

Forty-five homes will be for Incommunities and these will be available for rent.

This first phase construction phase is being supported by a £2.8 million grant from the national housing and regeneration body, the Homes and Communities Agency.

The newly completed Incommunities homes are a mix of two and three bedroom properties. They come with fitted kitchens and bathrooms and high efficiency central heating systems and solar thermal hot water systems.

All the homes have been built in line with the Government’s code for sustainable homes (level 3) and Incommunities policies on reducing carbon emissions.

All the Incommunities homes have been successfully let.

As part of the first phase, Keepmoat Homes will build 35 two and three bedroom homes for sale. Over the next three to four years, the partnership plans to build a total of around 440 properties, of which over 130 will be available for rent.

On Monday (17th May) David Ward, Managing Director of Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire, will handover a big key to Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group Chief Executive to celebrate the completion of the first new homes for rent at Ravenscliffe.

Jez Lester, Incommunities’ Assistant Chief Executive, Asset Management, said: “This joint development will provide much needed high quality affordable homes for local people including 45 rented homes as part of the first phase.

“We are delighted to be working with Keepmoat Homes, the Homes and Communities Agency and Bradford Council to deliver this major development. It follows extensive consultations with residents into the plans.

“Since 2006, Incommunities has built 284 homes for rent and for sale through shared ownership. Another 112 homes are being built on five additional sites across the district and more are in the pipeline. So far, we have invested over £35 million demonstrating our commitment to provide new homes.

“This is great news for home hunters, the jobs market and the district’s economy.”

David Ward, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting project.

“In addition to providing affordable homes, we hope to be able to offer job and training opportunities to local people and business to local contractors. For us, these elements are as important to community regeneration as the bricks and mortar.”
