Residents living at the Heathcliff sheltered scheme and nearby West Lane in Haworth have been given a festive boost with the modernisation of their homes.
The scheme, costing £366,000, by local landlord Incommunities has included fitting smart new kitchens, central heating and full rewiring work to 50 one and two bedroom flats. A number of the flats have been fully redecorating.
At Heathcliff, new energy efficient central heating has been installed to replace the old warm air system.
The improvements are part of a £2.1 million investment by Incommunities covering 338 village homes at Harden, Haworth, Oakworth, Silsden and Wilsden. The work started in September 2009 and is due to be fully completed in July 2010. It is being carried out by Wates Living Space - one of Incommunities regeneration partners.
The last of the improvements at Heathcliff are being completed this week (wc 21 December).
Brenda Everett, chairperson of the Heathcliff residents association said: “The workmen have done a terrific job and staff from Incommunities have been very helpful working with residents to ensure the improvements have gone to plan.
“The flats look lovely and everyone was given a choice of fittings and colour schemes.
“To mark the end of the improvements Wates kindly donated a new microwave which we raffled at our Christmas party raising £90 for the residents association.”
Ken Nicholson, Director of Incommunities – development and regeneration said: “Incommunities and our partners, Wates Living Space have worked closely together to make sure the improvements at Heathcliff have gone as smoothly as possible.
“The work underway on our Keighley villages programme shows our commitment to bring customers homes up to the Bradford Standard, a level over and above the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.”
