direct debit

This is probably the best way to pay your rent.  The money goes in straightaway and there's no danger you'll forget to pay!

We have a simple form for you to print out, fill in and send to your bank.  Use the Links below.

You'll need to put your tenancy reference number (it's on your rent card).   If you can't print out the form, or need advice, phone your local office.

There's a regular cash prize draw for tenants who pay by direct debit and for those who set one up on-line.

Below are some of the questions that people often ask about Direct Debit:

Paying by Direct Debit

Q.
How do I set up a Direct Debit?
A.

Setting up a Direct Debit is easy and quick to do. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Contact our Debit Control Section on 01274 254151, 254152 or 254153 or e-mail them at direct.debit@incommunities.co.uk
  2. You will need to have the following information to hand (your cheque book contains all the bank details that you require):
    • Your Rent Reference Number
    • Bank or Building Society name
    • Account Number
    • Sort Code
    • Branch Address

Once you have done this we will forward an instruction onto your bank/building society authorising them to make payments from your account.

Please note: Once your request has been processed we will send you official confirmation and a schedule with your payment details.
It is important that you continue to pay your rent by your usual method until the first date noted on your schedule.

Q.
Once it is set up, do I need to do anything else?
A.

No, other than making sure you have sufficient funds in your account when the payment is due. There are financial penalties that your bank or building society will incur if you do not have sufficient funds.

If you think there is not enough money in your bank account to cover your rent, you must contact Debit Control on 01274 254151, 254152 or 254153 immediately and we will give you advice on what to do.

Q.
Will the payments always be on the same day?
A.

Normally, payments will be made on the same day each week or month according to the payment frequency. Those tenants who pay weekly will continue to have their four ‘free weeks' during the year when the payment will not be collected. Monthly payments are unaffected by the ‘free weeks' since those payments are calculated differently.
If any payment due date falls at a weekend or on a Bank Holiday, we will debit your account just after that due date unless we notify you in advance of a change of date.

Q.
What if changes are needed?
A.

If either the amount you owe or the payment date changes, we will notify you a clear 10 working days ahead of your account being debited. This gives you plenty of time to get in touch with us if necessary.

Q.
Can I cancel a Direct Debit?
A.

Yes, if you need to cancel a Direct Debit, simply write to your bank or building society. It is a good idea to also send a copy to us at Ground Floor, Trust House, 5 New Augustus Street, Bradford, BD1 5LL

Q.
Who actually controls Direct Debit payments?
A.

The bank or building society that hold your account is responsible for all aspects of the running of that account. They are therefore accountable for all payments, including those made by Direct Debit.

Our Debit Control Section administers the Direct Debit for your rent. Contact them on 01274 254151, 254152 or 254153, if you have any queries.

Q.
Can I get back any money paid in error?
A.

Yes, if any payment is made in error you should contact your bank or building society that is responsible for giving you a full and immediate refund.

All Direct Debit payments are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee

Q.
What is the Direct Debit guarantee?
A.

All banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme give this guarantee. The efficiency and security of the Scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.

If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, you will be told about this at least 14 days in advance.

In the unlikely event that an error is made either by us or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund.

You are free to cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. If you do this, please also send a copy of the letter to Debit Control at Ground Floor, Trust House, 5 New Augustus Street, Bradford, BD1 5LL
