top housing apprenticeship awards

23 February 2010

The countdown has started to Incommunities’ annual apprentice of the year awards celebrating the housing group’s top talent.

The annual awards take place on Thursday, 4th March at Incommunities’ Trust House.

The organisation has 22 apprentices and these range from school leavers to men and women looking to build new careers. They are training in a number of different trades including joinery, plumbing, bricklaying, plastering and electrical work. Seven of the apprentices are women.

This year there are several awards being made including special trade awards, outstanding new apprentice of the year and an award for the best training mentor to an apprentice. From these Incommunities’ overall Apprentice of the Year winner will be chosen.

For the first time the apprentice of the year awards will be decided by voting among managers, trades people and staff working in Incommunities’ buildingservices, the housing group’s repairs service and propertysolutions service, who work on the housing group’s refurbishment schemes.

There will be prizes for each category winner. The overall winner will receive an engraved shield.

The event and prizes have been kindly sponsored by Broadford Plant & Tool Hire, City Electrical Factors, Howdens Joinery, Hill McGlynn Recruitment, Kalcrest Ltd Site Services, Magnet Trade, Newey & Eyre Electrical Distributors, PTS – Plumbing Trade Supplies and the Wolseley Group - Plumb Center.

Delroy Beverley, Director of Incommunities – propertysolutions said: “These awards recognise the commitment, skills, aptitude and team work shown by our apprentices in both their day to day work and as part of their college based training.

“As one of Bradford’s major employers, Incommunities is committed to investing in talented local people and I would like to thank each one of them for their contribution to our business.”

“The introduction of staff voting has been a popular addition to this year’s apprentice awards giving their work colleagues and managers a ‘big say’ in the outcome of the prizes.”

The 2009 Apprentices of the Year award winner was Miles Mitchell (joiner). The area winners were Miles Mitchell, Jonathan Fawcett (electrician) and Stuart Gudiens (joiner)
