Incommunities launches winter support to help customers keep warm

Practical support on offer to help customers keep warm this winter.

The support is only available to those customers who are in fuel poverty and need some extra help to get by this winter.

It includes the distribution of a limited number of 'warm packs', containing items such as a hot water bottle, blanket, hat, scarf and gloves.

Customers can also receive fuel top-up vouchers, draught excluders, reflective radiator panels, and LED lightbulbs - all aimed at improving comfort and reducing energy costs.

The warm packs are part of a wider package of long-term support to help customers stay warm this winter.

Anna Newton, Head of Tenancy Wellbeing at Incommunities, said: “Winter can be a tough time for many people, especially with rising energy costs.

“We're encouraging our customers who need support to reach out to us. Our support package isn't just about a one-off handout; it's about understanding the customer's specific issues and working with them to get to the bottom of the cause.

“We want to help customers longer term, which is why when our customers come to us, we will have a chat with them about their income and expenditure so that we can provide support that can help them for months and years to come.”

As well as immediate, practical help, Incommunities' Money Matters team is on hand to offer advice and longer-term support. This includes:

  • Checking customers are on the most affordable energy tariffs
  • Helping to manage energy-related debt
  • Advice on affordable and energy-efficient heating methods
  • Support to help customers get their gas supplies reconnected if they've been capped
  • Referrals to partners such as the Green Doctor for extra support

We've also recently announced a £17.5 million investment to continue improving the energy efficiency of our homes, recognising that some properties need longer-term upgrades to reduce heat loss and energy bills.

Anna added: “This investment will take time to deliver, but we're acting now to help our customers through the coldest months of the year. We've been lucky to be able to fund the warm packs through our contractors' social value contribution.”

Customers who need help are encouraged to get in touch with the Money Matters team moneymatters@incommunities.co.uk.

After answering a few questions and discussing their household finances, the team can identify the most suitable support available.
