Braithwaite People’s Association - Keith Thompson Centre

View of Keighley

Braithwaite People’s Association has made the decision that they can no longer continue to lease the land where the Keith Thompson Centre is located. As the owners of the land, we have offered to do this for them as the site is unsafe. We are also keen to support a local group(s) to form to carry on from the BPA. We are currently writing to residents in the Braithwaite area advising of the need for us to make the Keith Thompson Centre site secure and safe and to see if a local group would like to carry on the previous work of the BPA. Our Community Team is available to take calls and answer questions.

The background

Braithwaite People’s Association (BPA) contacted us for help having made the decision that they could no longer continue to lease the land where the Keith Thompson Centre is situated due to lack of support. As the owners of the land, we have carried out a thorough assessment of the site. Unfortunately, the Keith Thompson building has been deemed as unsafe and will need to be demolished. Although the BPA own and manage the centre, they cannot afford to demolish the building themselves, so we have offered to do this for them. See the BPA's letter here -  BPA letter.pdf

Going forwards

We understand that the Keith Thompson Centre has played a pivotal role in the community over many years and appreciate the benefits and support that this has brought to the local area.

We are part of a group who are very keen to support any local groups who wish to form to carry on the support for the local community that was previously offered by the BPA. We would encourage anyone who would be interested in forming such a group to contact our Community Resilience Team on 01274 254704 or 01274 254564.

Questions regarding the demolition should be directed to 01274 257910 (before 23rd July 2021).
